What Endings in Astrology, Numerology, and Yoga Can Teach Us
So far 2025 has been full of endings… and we’re only halfway into the year. Collectively, everyone I’ve been encountering lately is going through a MAJOR ending in their life: getting out of a long term relationship, getting a divorce, getting laid off or moving to an entirely new place. For me personally, I’m going through some aggressive transitions as well - on the brink of leaving my corporate job and moving to an island.
All of these shifts had me reflecting on endings. Why we resist them. Why we fear them. Why we hold on when we know we need to let go.
As humans, we resist endings because we don’t know exactly what is on the other side. Not knowing creates a sense of fear, a lack of safety in what is known and comfortable.
But what if we reframe endings as the portal to new beginnings. In order to create space for the next evolution of your path, something needs to clear. By embracing the ending, and choosing to move through that sticky, uncomfortable transition with grace and ease we can flow into this next path rather than force it.
Endings don’t have to be the abrupt end of the line. The way life and energy actually work isn’t linear, like our minds are conditioned to believe. It’s a circle. The cycle of one ending leads into a new beginning which leads to a new ending and so on.
The cycles of our sky beautifully reflect this. Planets cycle through all 12 zodiac signs at one point in time. We experience the sun transiting through all 12 houses of our chart in the course of one year. As we hit the end of our chart, at the 12th house, we begin again at the 1st house.
Why 2025 in Particular Is Significant for Endings
In numerology, you add up the digits of a year to determine the collective year cycle we're in.
2 + 0 + 2 + 5 = 9
This means we are all collectively experiencing a 9 year cycle. 9 signifies the end of the 9 year cycle. It represents completion, the closing of a chapter, the end of a story. When I noticed everyone around me experiencing major endings, it made me feel less alone in my own ending. This sense of community from the collective energy allowed me to embrace my own ending and trust that it’s okay to let my story end, because everyone else’s story was ending too.
From an Astrological Perspective, the Outer Planets Are All Changing Signs This Year
Which is quite rare to have all the slower moving generational planets shift signs in the same year.
Current sky on June 5th 2025. Saturn and Neptune are at early degrees of Aries at 0 and 1. Uranus is at late degrees of Taurus at 28. Jupiter is at its last degree in Gemini of 29.
In late 2024, Pluto changed from Capricorn to Aquarius for the next 19 years. Pluto only changes signs about every 12-30 years.
On 3/30/2025, Neptune changed signs from Pisces to Aries. Neptune changes signs about every 14 years, so this marks a 14 year shift.
On 5/24/2025, Saturn will change from Pisces to Aries as well. Saturn changes signs about every 2.5 years, so this marks a 2.5 year shift
On 6/9/2025, Jupiter will change from Gemini to Cancer. Jupiter changes signs about every year, this marks a 13 month shift.
On 7/7/2025, Uranus will change from Taurus to Gemini. Uranus changes signs every 7 years, so this marks a 7 year shift.
While these outer planets will retrograde throughout the rest of 2025 and move back into the previous sign, all of them will be hovering around 29 degrees right before they change signs on the date listed above.
In astrology, degrees are like specific markers to track how far a planet is into a sign. If a planet just entered a sign it will be at 0 degrees, if it is at the tail end of a sign it will be at 29 degrees.
The number 29 (ending in a 9) alongside the outer planets reaching their 29th degree in the old sign feels like the true marker of an ending and the heaviness that may come with it. The planet is ready to move forward. They are tired of being in this sign. They are craving a shift. They’ve learned all the lessons they’ve needed to and squeezed out all the juice from it.
Just like when planets are at their 29th degree, we can feel heavy or antsy towards the end of a relationship or career or any ending in our life. We’re just so ready for a change, for some fresh new energy.
Because these transits are happening in the sky we are all existing under, we will all feel this pressure of the ending from these outer planets, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune at their 29th degree. It may create a sense of urgency alongside a feeling of sluggishness — the urge to move forward, yet the fatigue that keeps us from getting there.
The paradox here is that the planet is actually so comfortable in that previous sign. It has become familiar with how that sign functions and learned how to embody it across all 29 degrees. Yet the cycle must come to an end and the planet must move forward into the next sign.
Just like how the sky is constantly changing, our lives here on Earth are also constantly changing. We may feel comfortable in this old version of ourselves, because we know how to operate in this energy really well. We know exactly how our past self functions. But at some point, life naturally unfolds and ebbs and flows… and the result? An energy shift. The only direction we are headed is forward, we have no choice but to evolve and step into this new version of ourselves, just like how planets step into their new sign. So how can we embrace the ending of the 29th degree? How do we let that ending happen then move forward to explore the energy of the new sign, this new evolution of ourselves?
Feel it in Your Body, Not (just) Your Mind: Lessons from Yoga
Since astrology can be very mental, we can learn to embrace endings through our bodies by nourishing ourselves through yoga asana. The practice of yoga offers an infinite wellspring of meaningful lessons and supports our understanding of endings in our bodies.
The practice of yoga is imbued with endings. The final pose of savasana in the practice is literally “little death” or corpse pose to signify the end of one practice and the re-emergence into a new practice.
Yoga Asana or the posture and physical practice of yoga consists of different poses that are interlinked or sequenced together. As one pose ends, we transition into another shape, then a new pose emerges.
Take for example a forward fold or forward standing bend. If you’re in this pose for too long, you may get lightheaded or dizzy because all the blood is rushing to your head as you bow towards the ground.
You know this pose needs to come to an end. Just like in life, when you resist the ending, it may cause even more discomfort and pain as time goes on. So how do we embrace the ending?
We transition with grace and ease. Pause and feel those moments in the “in-between”.
You gently come out of the forward fold. You slowly rise, one vertebrae at a time, to a standing pose. The beginning of a new pose. Relief in the body. New perspective in the mind. Energy shifting all throughout.
For me personally, yoga is the greatest embodiment of this cycle of birth, preservation, death and rebirth not only in the circular nature of certain flows like salutations (namaskars) or mandalas but also in the foundational belief system in the Hindu gods.
There are many gods in Hinduism, but the three main ones are Brahma (the creator), Vishnu (the preserve) and Shiva (the destroyer).
How did you feel when you read Shiva’s role? Was there a chill that went through your body or an immediate negative reaction?
Society conditions us to see destruction as harmful, discouraged and negative which is probably why we all fear change and resist endings. But what if we reframed Shiva as creative destruction instead?
Their role in the grand universe is to destroy by clearing out what is no longer working or what has already fulfilled its purpose to create space for something new. Only when Shiva creates space can Brahma step in to birth something new.
When you allow misaligned people, dissatisfying jobs or old things to take up space in your life, nothing new can come in. There is no space for new energy if you are still holding on. If you let your refrigerator fill up with expired milk cartons, there’s no physical space left for fresh ones. If your soul is still holding onto the stale energy of limiting beliefs that once served your past self, there's no energetic space for abundance, possibility, and opportunity to flow in.
To build the life you dream of and move forward, you have to be willing to sacrifice the comfort of what is known.
In our yoga asana practice, when you crave a change from a pose (the forward fold), but can’t let go of how safe it feels because you’ve been in this pose before, you stay stuck. You don’t get to experience the standing pose because to do so, you need to move.
Embrace the energy of Shiva in your life. Allow creative destruction to happen because even though you can’t see exactly what is on the other side, you know that what comes after the cycle of death is re-birth and creation. And the cycle starts again.
